Members stepped back in time with a visit to Henrietta Street, Dublin’s first Georgian street and one of the city’s most historically significant addresses. When these grand houses were built in the early 18th century, Dublin was emerging as one of the finest cities in the British Isles. Elegant new streets and squares were laid out for the aristocracy and wealthy elite, with imposing grand mansions, wide avenues and formal garden squares transforming the city into a centre of fashion, politics and social life.

Henrietta Street stood at the heart of this new Georgian vision, however, over the centuries it was witness to dramatic social change, evolving from an exclusive residential enclave into tenement housing for thousand’s of Dublin’s poorest families.

Today, the Henrietta Street Museum is owned and cared for by Dublin City Council. It first opened to the public in 2018 and has won a number of awards over the years. Visit Henrietta Street

Most recently, in April, it received the European Heritage Award/Europa Nostra Award, regarded as one of Europe’s top heritage honours.
